![]() RIACS has also acted as a bridge between industry and the government to mature information technologies for infusion into NASA operations, enabling broader public benefit from research results.įor NASA, RIACS has collaborated most closely with the Intelligent Systems Division and the NASA Advanced Supercomputing Division (NAS) at the NASA Ames Research Center – NASA’s Center for Excellence in Information Technology. Over its nearly twenty five-year history, RIACS has acted as a bridge between academia and government research, engaging talented researchers from around the world to collaborate with NASA on challenging research topics. To implement this approach, research staff undertakes collaborative projects with research groups at NASA, integrating computer science with other disciplines to support NASA’s mission. This goal has since expanded to support a broad range of activities associated with space exploration and science, including mission operations and innovative information systems for technology research and development.Īn underlying philosophy and approach of the Institute is that successful research is interdisciplinary, and that challenging applications associated with NASA’s mission provide a driving force for developing innovative information systems and advancing computer science. Since its inception, a goal of the Institute’s research has been to support scientific research and engineering from problem formulation to results dissemination, combining concurrent processing systems with intelligent systems to allow users to interact in the language of their discipline. The Institute was created to conduct basic and applied research in computer science, covering a broad range of research topics of interest to the aerospace community including supercomputing, computational fluid dynamics, computational chemistry, high performance networking, and artificial intelligence. Bicycle self-locking areas available at both the Moffett Boulevard and Ellis Street gates.įor additional information, visit: Research Institute for Advanced Computer Science (RIACS) was founded Jas a joint collaboration between the Universities Space Research Association (USRA) and the NASA Ames Research Center. Vehicles may only enter Ames through the Ellis Street gate until parking is filled, but pedestrians, bicyclists and shuttle riders may arrive at either the Moffett Boulevard or Ellis Street gates. įor more information about CalTrain, visit: įor more information about bike trails in Mountain View, see our Bicycle Map PDF or Getting Around Mountain View webpage > VTA Light Rail's "Downtown Mountain View" station and CalTrain "Mountain View" station.įor more information about the VTA's Light Rail, visit. > Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority (VTA) Light Rail's "BayShore/NASA" station, and NASA will provide shuttle buses every 15 minutes from two public transit locations: If you have questions regarding ADA accommodations, please contact Dana Bolles at Alternative forms of transit are recommended. > NASA Ames has approximately 10,500 on-site parking spaces (accessible through the Ellis Street gate) for an estimated 120,000 attendees – so parking is not guaranteed. Manila Road will also be closed to vehicles from Enterprise Way to Ellis Street. The South-bound Highway 101 on ramp will remain open. Beginning at 7:30 a.m., the Moffett Boulevard off-ramps on U.S. Ames is working with local law enforcement to address traffic impacts in the area on October 18.Īlong with observing the staggered ticket timings, NASA Ames recommends walking, biking and public transportation for the thousands attending. > The NASA Ames 75th Anniversary Open House is a unique event, and expected to be many times larger than other recent Ames public events. The public is encouraged to observe their ticket time. > Ames will have staggered entry times from 9:00 a.m. Food, drinks and NASA gift shop merchandise will be on sale. After the walking tour, they can join on the plaza to learn about NASA missions. Attendees can take a two-mile walking tour through the Center and visit with Ames engineers and scientists in booths set up in front of their facilities. NASA is inviting the Bay Area behind the gates for its 75th Anniversary on October 18. Find out what this means for you with important links and email addresses >. On Saturday, October 18, 2014, NASA/Ames will hold their 75th Anniversary from 9:00AM to 5:00PM.
